How much weight have you lost and how long did it take?

What prompted your decision to lose weight?

In April 2018 my partner and I took my son to an outdoor activity centre aimed at catering for those with disabilities. During the week we were there, my disabled son was able to do everything, the fact that he is a full time wheelchair user with profound and complex needs made no difference. He did an abseil in his wheelchair, enjoyed the zipwire using a special harness, went on a carriage ride and loved the sound and movement of the horses. I however couldn't do any of these things as I exceeded the weight limit for these activities.

When we got back from that holiday I had one of those 'moments' - my disabled son's needs hadn't held him back but my weight had. It was possible for him to achieve so much and yet my weight, something I could control, stopped me joining in and having those experiences with him. I decided that something had to change. We booked to go back to the same outdoor activity centre the following October (2019) and I promised myself that this time I would be doing all the activities with him. I kept that promise and enjoyed every second with him, it was a really special holiday.

How did you hear about Nutracheck?

I think it must have been through an internet search, it certainly wasn't recommended to me by anyone or suggested by a medical professional.

Has your weight stayed fairly consistent over the years, or have you always had to manage it?

I've always struggled with my weight and have done various diets over the years but always ended up gaining back what I lost. I managed to lose a few stone years ago counting calories but didn't have an App to help me - I did it the old way with a calorie counter and notebook!

How easy was it to fit the changes you made into your lifestyle?

I found it quite easy as nothing is banned or off limits, you just need to plan, which is incredibly easy with the app. You soon learn what things will fill you up and that you enjoy and what things are worth keeping as a treat.

What was the most difficult thing?

It was a complete mindset and lifestyle change for me and that is never easy to commit to, but with such a lot of weight to lose a short term approach was never going to work.

How do you feel now compared to before?

I'm so much fitter and happier, it is so nice being able to buy clothes more easily as well.

Any notable milestones to report?

Completing the Couch to 5 K programme in 2019 and then running a total of 260 miles last year.Planning my wedding this year and feeling amazing in my wedding dress!

  1. Log everything you eat and drink, even if it isn't a good day and you go over your calories, it makes you accountable and helps you see where you can improve.
  2. Take photos along the way, really good for motivation and seeing progress.
  3. Enjoy your food! Pick foods you like and are happy to eat all the time. You're much more likely to stick to it this way.
