How much weight have you lost and how long did it take?

I have lost a total of 10st 7lbs147lbs66.6kg.

My weight loss story started on the 22nd March 2022. I weighed 22st 3lb and my HBAC1 level (average blood glucose) had gone up to 58. At 5ft 10in tall, I was absolutely horrified at myself.

My current weight is 11st 10lbs164lbs74.4kg and I have maintained it for the past 8 weeks, still tracking what I eat via Nutracheck.

What prompted your decision to lose weight?

In January 2021 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with an HBAC1 level of 52. Along came high blood pressure and high cholesterol too.

I was struggling to get up a flight of stairs, lacked energy and struggled to fit into a size 4XL in clothes. I wanted to lock myself away from the world and couldn't do the things I enjoyed - as an amateur photographer I found it hard getting out walking to locations.

How did you hear about Nutracheck?

I heard about Nutracheck from my wife, as some of her friends had used it.

On 22nd March 2022, my wife lost 6lb through calorie counting via Nutracheck and this was the beginning of my journey.

Have you experienced any health improvements?

My fitness! In January 2023 I started cycling to work on an e-bike to help with this. Along with the walking, I was now completing 12-mile hikes in the mountains with ease.

In March 2023, weighing 12st, my diabetes review came and my HBAC1 level had gone down from 58 to an unbelievable 33. My blood pressure and cholesterol were both now normal too.

I have since been off all medication and completely reversed my type 2 diabetes and couldn't be happier.

How easy was it to fit the changes you made into your lifestyle?

With calorie counting, I found it easy to watch what I was eating. From calorie counting and walking, mainly on flat ground, for the first few months, I had lost 4st by July 2022. As the weight continued to drop, I started to do local hill walks. By the time September 2022 had come (6 months), I had dropped an incredible 6st.

My life now had completely turned around, I was eating more than ever but tracked and recorded with a cheat day once a week where I ate what I wanted.

What was the most difficult thing?

My biggest struggle was getting going in the first place, I didn't think it was possible.Through willpower, determination and the support of my wife and inner family, I achieved my goal.

How do you feel now compared to before?

My energy levels are through the roof - I competed in a 100-mile cycle on 27th August 2023 and I now cycle 70+ miles a week as part of my daily activities along with the odd hike.

At 42 I am fitter, healthier and happier than I ever thought could be possible in less than 15 months.

Any notable milestones to report?

In October 2022 I gained enough confidence to join my local gym and started a weight training programme. Sticking with Nutracheck tracking, it was easy to monitor my habits.

I also had my first big hike in the Mourne Mountains here in Northern Ireland, the highest peak 850 metres Slieve Donard, and something I had dreamed of for years.
