Q.

Will I be stuck at 10 st 10 forever?

Hi there, I have been on this diet since late 2006, and although I am very happy with the results, I cant seem to get below 10.10. I would love to get down to 10 stone but seem to be stuck! Since last April, I have lost only 2 lbs altogether and although my eating habits and exercise regime hasn't reduced I can't seem to shift the last ten pounds. Is there anyway I can kick start the diet again? The lowest I have been is 10.3 but that was due to illness, does this mean I could get down to it if I wanted or has my body reached its plateau and that's it? HELP!!

Hi

Thanks for your query and your incredible patience and stoicism in the face of a tough struggle! I?d like to give you a clear answer, but I cant, not really any way. I think it depends on whether 10 stone is an aspiration or a need - in other words are you already at a healthy weight for your height or do you need to lose that weight to get yourself into the healthy BMI range?

If you are already at a healthy weight (albeit not a slim as you?d like), it's going to be harder to get things kick-started, but hopefully not impossible. The thing you can be really proud of is maintaining - that can be the hardest work of all - and you?ve probably done that by keeping things much the same from week to week.

Now what you need to do I think is shake things up a bit which you can do by changing your exercise routine (Kelly might be able to help with this if you put a question to her) and perhaps varying your diet a bit too. A couple of weeks dropping to 1200 calories to give your body a shock may help, and in addition you could also try upping your protein and reducing your carb intake temporarily.

If none of these things help at all and you?re still overweight by official standards, a visit to your GP may be in order to check there aren't any underlying reasons (e.g. hormonal) for your difficulties. I wish you lots of luck.
