Vi Shape Shakes

Hiya, I've been struggling with my sweet cravings for a while and a friend was telling me she has lost her weight doing this 2 shakes a day and a meal at night and has lost her craving for fatty foods. what is your views on this as I was thinking of trying it? They seem to have loads of good vitamins and minerals in but not so sure if this could be ok? I don't plan to give up on Nutracheck - would still add up my cals in diary. Can you give me any advice on this please good or bad. Thanks

A.

Our expert says...

Hi there,

Thanks for your message.

Although using shakes can be helpful as a short term way to lose weight, in the long term they're not ideal because they don't help you find out about eating a healthy balanced diet. Any method of weight loss should be sustainable, and something that teaches you lifelong healthy eating habits.

Weight loss shakes are helpful as they give you a calorie controlled way of sticking to a calorie allowance. However the downsides are that they can become 'boring' after a few days, plus they don't give you the variety that you would get from a wide range of different foods.

On a 1,400 calorie allowance you have freedom to eat a good range of foods, and to control your sweet cravings. Choosing more complex carbohydrates such as wholemeal bread, brown rice, wholegrain pasta etc, rather than white alternatives can really help to get a more stable blood sugar

level. Maintaining a stable blood sugar level can really help to prevent the cravings that you're getting.

Unfortunately shakes tend to be sweet to hide the taste of all the vitamins and minerals that are added - so they're not really going to help with your sweet cravings, they will just mask them while you're having them.

By all means try out the shakes for a week or two, but I would strongly advise you not to use them for any longer for all the reasons I've already mentioned.

I hope that this helps - if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

Best wishes,

Janet
