Hungry all day after getting up early!

Well I get up at 4.30am then make my food for the day. I then walk to work (it takes me 40mins) on a empty stomach when I get to work I have a cereal bar then I'm so hungry all day I eat crisps and snacks so I'm totally defeating the object of walking to work to lose weight. Have you or anyone got any good tips for me? And I finish work at 4.00pm then because I have been up early, all I want to do is sleep and then I don't exercise. I have gym membership so I'm wasting my money really. I get really frustrated. Please help Tracy xx

Hi Tracy,

Gosh, you do have an early start to the day, but good for you for walking to work to burn off those calories.

After an early start, and walking to work, I think you need to have a more substantial breakfast to boost your blood sugar levels and to keep you feeling fuller for longer. A cereal bar really isn't enough and, depending on the brand you are buying, can be high in sugar which will not sustain you for long. Is it possible that you can take some cereal in with you? Any type of wholegrain, no-added sugar cereal would provide you with lots of filling fibre and nutrients and should stop you feeling hungry.

As you are starting the day early, it would be a good idea to have a mid-morning snack to keep you going until lunch time. Fresh or dried fruit with a few nuts and seeds would be a good choice, as would oat cakes topped with some protein (lean meat or cottage cheese for example). Other ideas are vegetable sticks with houmous, or any other low fat dip, or plain yogurt with fresh fruit. Any of these should fill you up and stop you wanting to snack on things like crisps.

It would also be a good idea to have a similar snack in the afternoon. Instead of 3 meals a day, think in terms of 6 small meals and day and ?grazing? throughout the day. This should sustain your energy levels all day and give you enough energy to hit the gym after work! Good luck.
