Q.

How should I save calories for my son's wedding buffet?

My son is getting married in a few weeks and it is a buffet reception. What would be the best way to save the calories so I can eat and maybe have a couple of glasses of wine. Would it be advisable to save a set amount of calories for the preceeding week and also the week after the wedding as you can imagine a buffet is not the healthiest form of food?

Our expert says...

You could tackle this by having say 100 calories a day fewer per day in the week leading up to the buffet, Alternatively you could just allow yourself the buffet and accept that you may lose less weight for a week or so, Or you could try to make as many sensible choices you can at the buffet, enter it all into your diary afterwards and then see what repair you have to do in terms of eating slightly less for a few days afterwards. In my opinion it usually pays to prepare in advance though, so you can enjoy without guilt, Do bear in mind though that a complete blow out isn't wise at any time, and you?ll probably feel better in yourself if you can just enjoy but not go overboard!!

At the buffet try not to put more on your plate tha you would eat at a norma meal and fill half of your plate with carbs and veg- salad and bread or rice salad for example. The rest can be given over to something protein based (very good at filing you up) like lean ham or a chicken leg (preferably skinless!) or such like. The rest of the space is for small amount of those fattening buffet treat foods we all enjoy. For dessert, try to go for a small portion of something meringue based (usually better than truffle or chocoalte torte). Drink one glass of wine completely without top ups, before going onto another so you know exactly how much you are drinking. Its all commonsense really and I wish you the very best of luck (isn't the mother of the bride usually to nervous to eat any way!!). If there?s a dance, make sure to let your hair down and get in lots of exercise.

I hope you have a wonderful day.
