Thanks for your message.
In terms of how much muscle you can expect to gain, this will depend on lots of factors including the amount of protein you’re eating, how much weight bearing exercise you are doing, your genetic predisposition etc. One research study suggests 2-4 lbs of muscle can be gained over a 12 week period, whereas others are more conservative suggesting 1 lb of muscle per month. However most research is done in young men, so again the results may not be relevant.
To me, the important thing for you is to reduce your body fat, through your healthy diet and the exercise you’re doing. If you are gaining lean body tissue at the same time then that is a bonus. If you are a member at a gym – it might be worthwhile talking to one of the gym trainers about ways to optimise fat burn and muscle gain as they will be able to give you individualised advice.
