Going on a cruise and worried about gaining weight.....

I am going on my first cruise in two weeks time for 9 nights. I have managed to lose 1 stone and as it is a formal cruise I have bought 3 new evening gowns that fit but with not much room to spare. I am worried that if I gain weight quickly towards the end of the holiday they might not fit (the next size up was too big so had to get the size I have). Will a quick weight gain actually show in clothes size straight away? I have been told it is possible to gain 1 stone on a cruise. I have maintained the same weight now for 4 weeks. Would I be better off to drop to 1000 cals a day and burn about 500 cals at gym 5-6 times this and next week before I leave to hopefully lose 5lbs or more? I still could do with losing another 2 stone in total, so I'm not near target yet.

Hi.

Congratulations on losing a stone ? that is quite an achievement and going on holiday is a great way to celebrate this.

You sound like you are worrying quite a bit about gaining weight on holiday and it would be a shame if this was to spoil the build up, or indeed the holiday itself. After all, holidays are supposed to be fun! But, when you have put in so much time and effort into losing weight, it is good to prepare yourself and think about what you are going to do when you are away.

I think your idea to reduce your calorie level, and increase your exercise, for the next week or so until you go away is a good one. A holiday at the end is always very motivational! I suggest lowering your calorie intake to 1200 calories a day and increasing your exercise and general activity levels as much as you can during this time. I think you need to be realistic though in your expectations, as 5lbs is a lot to lose in a short space of time and 2-3lbs is probably more realistic.

As you have successfully maintained your weight for the last 4 weeks, you certainly know what to do to achieve this. I would imagine that on holiday you are going to allow yourself a little leeway? The trick here is not to go overboard (excuse the pun!). Maybe set yourself some boundaries, such as one or two treats a day ? but don't forget that alcohol will no doubt be one of these! On a cruise there will be loads of activities to do, so why not make the most of these and burn up any extra calories you are eating?

You have obviously learnt a lot about food to lose your initial stone and I think you will be surprised how this will influence your food choices on holiday. But I go back to my original point ? holidays are fun, so don't forget to enjoy yourself too!
