Gall Bladder Removal

Hello, I had my fall bladder removed in 2006 due to gall stones triggered by stress. Does this have affect me at all whilst I am dieting ? Thank you

Thanks for your email.

The removal of the gall bladder will affect the way in which fat is digested by your body, however I would imagine that since you had your gall bladder out several years ago you may have already received advice about following a lower fat diet to help with this? In terms of dieting and losing weight, not having a gall bladder shouldn’t have any additional effect on your digestion.  In fact, if you are already used to following a lower fat diet, this can sometimes help people to adjust to calorie counting, and cutting back.

Fat is the most energy dense nutrient which is why following a low fat diet can help people to lose weight. The most important thing to do is to stick to your calorie and fat allowance, be as active as possible and hopefully you will see 1-2lbs weight loss per week.
