Coffee Shop Tips

Can you have your cake and eat it? Yes you can!

Choose skimmed milk in drinks and add sweetener to your tea/coffee instead of sugar.

Save up to half the calories by choosing a small size serving, for example a 'Primo' at Costa or a 'Tall' at Starbuck's.

'Off-set' your calories. If you really fancy an indulgent drink such as a latte or a hot chocolate, then skip the cake. Got an urge for cake? Then just have a simple filter coffee or a cup of tea with it.

Sugar free syrup can save you 20 calories per pump, compared with the regular version.

Whipped cream on a medium sized beverage can add as much as 62 calories and 6 grams of fat to your drink.

Eating at the coffee shop...

Calorie friendly snacks such as yoghurt topped with muesli and dried fruit, which provide approximately 150-200 calories and 5-10g of fat per portion.

The best choices are chicken, ham or salmon salad or Mediterranean vegetable sandwich made with wholemeal bread.

Most Panini's and melts are high in calories as they usually have cheese added, sandwiches such as egg or tuna mayonnaise are high in calories also. Why not share? You'll halve the calorie content!

Check the calorie and fat content of specific coffee shop products such as Starbuck's, Café Nero and Prêt a Manger in our database by searching in the search box in the top left corner of the food diary.
