Want to put half a stone back on for my wedding

Hi there, I wanted some advice on putting weight back on healthily, while keeping toned. Putting a little back on, half a stone or so. Getting married in October and want to look my best and like my curvy self! Also, can you advise on any diet tips for conceiving - food to eat/avoid/supplements/exercise etc?

Hi Steph

If you’re aiming to put half a stone back on by your wedding you’ve got plenty of time in which to do it safely and healthily. The main thing is to keep exercising (or to start some exercising if you aren’t already), which should include moves like lunges, triceps dips, biceps curls etc that give you definition whilst keeping your curviness.  In combination with this, I’d suggest increasing your calorie intake by about 200 calories a day. Of course you should monitor your progress to see how you are doing, but this seems like the best plan to me!

As far as getting pregnant is concerned, the main thing you should be doing is taking a 400 microgram folic acid supplement everyday in preparation. Trying to eat 1-2 two portions of oily fish a week and getting your five a day fruit and veg are also important. Zinc is an important mineral for reproductive health too, so include some lean red meat in your diet. Tinned crab meat is a good  zinc source too, and if you like oysters they are the best source of all!  Make sure that husband-to-be eats well too, as this is important for producing fit and healthy sperm!
