Thyroid problem and wheat intolerance - can you help?

Hi I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid just before Christmas but by then I had put on over 3 stone. I am now on thyroxine but my weight is not shifting. I also suffer from very high cholesterol so have been following a low fat diet and am waiting for blood results before going on statins. I also suffer from intolerance to wheat and gluten. I also suffer from fibromyalgia which means I cannot exercise like I used to which is very depressing and frustrating. please have you any suggestions that can help me. I got so fed up that I haven't been filling in my diary until today. Ann

I can understand it feels like the world is against you and your quest to get slim!

But filling in your diary is a positive thing you can do to stop things getting the better of you. The problem is that you have very many diet restrictions that make life quite difficult  and it’s important that you know how many calories you are eating so you can see to what degree your metabolism may be affecting your ability to lose weight. It maybe that you could do with your medication adjusting, in which case having a record of how many calories you are eating and how much weight you are losing is useful. I would also ask your doctor to refer you to a dietitian so you can get personalised advice. 

In the mean time, keep concentrating hard on keeping your weight stable, and even if that is all your circumstances allow you to manage at the mo then pat yourself on the back for that. Unfortunately you will probably   find it harder to lose weight than others which is a tough fact of life. But acknowledging it and getting all the support you can around you is half the battle.
